Five-Year Plan is the name of a definitive stamp series , which by the postal administration of the German Democratic Republic was issued in the years 1953 to 1959. The occasion was the first economic five-year plan of the GDR.

The stamp with the value of a penny was hard labor in the mines. Will be followed by the cooperation of workers, farmers and engineers,working women , success of the GDR in the economy, but also the rest of the working people. The highest value of 84 pfennig presented a family with peace dove in front of the tower at the Weberwiese near the Stalin Allee is in Berlin (a similar idea had the never-issued 200-mark note the GDR, here was the dove of peace, the watermark). This partly propagandistic representations were on the order of work, learning, recreation, harvest the gains the goal of a peaceful life.

The stamps have been drawn from the graphic artist Erich Gruner. The engraver was Karl Wolf . ^[1]

These brands were partially valid until 31 December 1962. There were a total of 18 different motifs: the Michel stamp catalog 62 different editions in different versions

The first issue was the 10th August 1953, less than two months after the popular uprising on 17 June . Seventeen subjects appeared in offset printing , missing the mark to 24 cents. The originally planned letterpress was due to production bottlenecks only from 21 November 1953 are published. The stamps in the offset printing differ from the book printed output by an optically inferior quality; instead of dotted background was white or shaded, blurred the images. The easiest distinguishing feature is that the brands in offset printing without the names of designers and engravers have appeared at the bottom mark the edge, while the letterpress editions (Michel numbers 405, 406, 408, 409, 411, 413-416 and 418-422) names with E.Gruner (left) and K.Wolf were provided (right).
